How to Download and Install MiSide Zero Safely on Windows

MiSide Zero is a fan-made prequel and reimagining created by Voidway. It is not an official MiSide release and is not affiliated with AIHASTO, IndieArk, or Shochiku. The safest way to try it is to start from Voidway's official itch.io page, keep Windows security enabled, and avoid reuploads.

This guide covers the public Windows Alpha. At the time of verification, the official page lists Alpha 0.72, a 160 MB ZIP file, and a project status of in development.

Before You Download

Check the current requirements before downloading:

The hardware figures are Voidway's minimum target for 1080p at the lowest settings. Leave more than 200 MB free so Windows has room to extract the archive and the game can create settings or save data.

The public listing currently supports English, German, French, Italian, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, and two Spanish variants. Simplified Chinese is not listed on the official page as of August 10, 2026.

MiSide Zero currently has no official browser version. A page that says “play MiSide Zero online” is not the Voidway Windows Alpha described here.

Download From the Official Page

1. Open voidwaygames.itch.io/misidezero and confirm that the author is Voidway.
2. Select the download option on the project page. If itch.io offers a contribution prompt, you can support the team or continue to the available download choices.
3. Choose MiSide Zero Alpha 0.72.zip. The current file is approximately 160 MB.
4. Do not confuse it with MiSide Zero — Behind The Scenes Content, which is a separate, much larger bonus download rather than the playable Alpha.
5. Save the ZIP somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.

Use the exact voidwaygames.itch.io address. Search ads, unofficial mirrors, “repacked” copies, and direct file-hosting links add unnecessary risk and may distribute an outdated build.

Install the ZIP Build Manually

MiSide Zero is distributed as a portable ZIP rather than a traditional Windows installer.

1. Open File Explorer and find MiSide Zero Alpha 0.72.zip.
2. Right-click the file and choose Extract All. Do not launch the game from inside the compressed ZIP preview.
3. Pick a short, writable path such as C:\Games\MiSideZero. Avoid extracting into Program Files, a temporary folder, or a deeply nested directory.
4. Open the extracted folder and keep its executable, data folder, and supporting files together.
5. Launch the MiSide Zero .exe from that extracted folder.

If the game opens normally, create a desktop shortcut to the executable rather than moving the executable by itself. Unity games usually need the neighboring data folder and libraries to stay in the same relative locations.

Install With the itch App

The official itch desktop app is an alternative to handling ZIP files manually. itch.io says its app can install games from their project pages and keep supported downloads together in a managed library.

1. Download the itch app from itch.io/app.
2. On Windows, verify that the itch installer is digitally signed by itch corp before running it.
3. Open the MiSide Zero project page inside the itch app.
4. Select Install, choose an install location, and let the app identify the correct launch file.

This route is convenient for people who already use itch.io. It does not make MiSide Zero an official AIHASTO game—the project remains a Voidway fan production.

First Launch and Controls

The official update log says Alpha 0.71 added a controls screen and several useful inputs:

• Press Tab to display the keybind screen while playing.
• Left-click can be used for interactions.
• Press F to toggle the FPS counter.

Alpha 0.71 also fixed player-physics stutter, camera movement problems on lower-end PCs, and several scene or animation issues. Alpha 0.72 then recompiled the game with an updated Unity version for security reasons, so use 0.72 instead of an older reposted ZIP.

The public Alpha is short: itch.io currently describes its average session as about half an hour. That is the scope of the available test build, not a promised length for the finished project.

Fix Common Installation Problems

Windows warns that the app is unrecognized

Windows reputation-based protection may warn about files that do not yet have an established reputation. A warning is not proof that a file is safe or malicious, so verify the source instead of automatically bypassing it.

1. Confirm that you downloaded the ZIP from Voidway's exact itch.io project page.
2. Check that the filename and listed size match the current official build.
3. Update Microsoft Defender or your antivirus and scan the ZIP and extracted folder.
4. If the download came from a mirror or the details do not match, delete it and download again from itch.io.

Do not disable SmartScreen, Defender, or potentially unwanted app protection globally just to launch a fan game. Microsoft recommends keeping Windows and security intelligence updated and downloading software only from sources you trust.

The executable is missing after extraction

Check your antivirus protection history before downloading anything else. If security software quarantined a file, verify the original source and scan results. Do not replace a missing executable with one from a random file-sharing site.

The game opens to a black screen or performs poorly

• Confirm that every file finished extracting and that you are not running the executable inside the ZIP.
• Update the graphics driver through NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or Windows Update.
• Start with the lowest graphics settings.
• Use the F key FPS counter to distinguish low performance from a frozen game.
• Install Alpha 0.72; older builds do not include every 0.71 camera and stutter fix.

Can I run it on Mac, Linux, or mobile?

Voidway's current project page lists only Windows. Compatibility layers may work for some players, but they are not an officially listed MiSide Zero platform and are outside this guide. There is also no official Android, iPhone, or browser build on the project page at the time of verification.

Update or Uninstall MiSide Zero

For a manual installation, check Voidway's itch.io development log before replacing your current copy. Download the newest official archive and extract it into a new folder first; that makes it easy to confirm the new build works before removing an older folder.

Do not assume save compatibility between Alpha versions. Read the developer's update notes before copying configuration or save files between builds.

To remove a portable manual installation, delete the extracted game folder after preserving any files you intentionally want to keep. If you installed through the itch app, use its library management controls instead.
