MiSide Zero vs MiSide: Story, Developer and Alpha Differences

MiSide Zero and MiSide share characters, visual ideas, and a name, but they are not two official entries in one series. MiSide is the commercial game developed by AIHASTO and published by IndieArk and Shochiku in Japan. MiSide Zero is an unaffiliated Voidway fan project currently available as a short Windows Alpha.

That distinction matters when discussing canon, updates, downloads, and planned features. MiSide Zero can reinterpret the original world; it cannot establish official MiSide lore.

The main MiSide Zero Alpha guide tracks the current public build, official trailer, system requirements, and Voidway's published update history.

Official Status and Developers

The official MiSide Steam page identifies AIHASTO as the developer and IndieArk and Shochiku (Japan) as publishers. It launched on December 10, 2024 as a paid single-player game with Steam achievements and a downloadable demo.

Voidway uses different language for MiSide Zero: its itch.io project page calls the project a fan-made prequel and reimagining and explicitly says it is not affiliated with AIHASTO or IndieArk.

This means MiSide Zero is not:

  • an AIHASTO expansion;
  • an IndieArk-published prequel;
  • a replacement for an official MiSide update;
  • proof of what happened in MiSide's canon timeline.

It is best understood as a polished fan interpretation built around a character and unanswered space in the original game.

Story and Timeline

Steam introduces MiSide with a simple premise: the player cares for a virtual character and then finds themselves inside that game. The finished game develops that setup into a first-person psychological-horror story involving Mita, different versions of her, puzzles, minigames, and a deliberately unstable boundary between game and player.

Voidway describes MiSide Zero as taking place about one year before the base game's events. Its protagonist is the blonde player encountered in “Beyond the World,” commonly nicknamed Zero by fans. Rather than trying to fit invisibly into the official plot, Voidway says it is rewriting world mechanics, plotlines, and character arcs.

So “prequel” describes the chosen time period, while “reimagining” describes its relationship to canon. A detail revealed in MiSide Zero should not automatically be used to explain AIHASTO's MiSide.

Release Scope and Content

MiSide is a completed commercial release that continues to receive official patches and development work. Its Steam page lists 26 achievements, a free demo, and broad localization. Version 0.93L is the latest functional patch tracked in the official Steam announcements; our MiSide update history covers those changes separately.

MiSide Zero is much earlier in its lifecycle. The official itch.io page currently lists:

  • project status: In development;
  • latest public file: Alpha 0.72;
  • download size: approximately 160 MB;
  • average session: about half an hour;
  • latest listed update: January 30, 2026.

The 0.71 update added a keybind display, left-click interaction, an FPS counter, Mila in the main menu, a Cappie soundtrack, and several fixes. Alpha 0.72 recompiled the project with an updated Unity version for security reasons.

Treat screenshots, trailers, Discord previews, and roadmap discussions as previews unless the feature is present in the public build. Claims about six completed endings, every Mita variant being playable, a finished horror campaign, or a built-in Peaceful Mode should not be presented as current Alpha 0.72 features without a primary developer update.

Horror and tone

MiSide is sold and tagged as psychological horror, and Steam warns that it contains intense scenes. MiSide Zero's current itch.io listing uses the tags “3D” and “Atmospheric” and describes a rewrite, but its short Alpha is not a substitute for MiSide's completed horror campaign.

Comparing the public Alpha directly with the full MiSide campaign therefore measures two different stages of production. It is fair to compare their premise and presentation; it is too early to compare final story depth or ending count.

Platforms, Languages and Downloads

Both currently list Windows as their supported platform, but they use different distribution channels.

MiSide

  • Sold through Steam, with a free demo also available.
  • Steam lists English plus 30 additional supported languages.
  • Simplified Chinese is listed for interface, full audio, and subtitles.
  • Updates arrive through Steam.

MiSide Zero

  • Distributed from Voidway's itch.io page.
  • Alpha 0.72 is provided as an approximately 160 MB Windows ZIP.
  • itch.io currently lists 13 language entries, including English, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, and several European languages.
  • Simplified Chinese is not listed on the official project page as of August 10, 2026.
  • No official macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone, or browser build is listed there.

Which Game Should You Play First?

Play MiSide first, even though MiSide Zero chooses an earlier point in the timeline.

MiSide Zero's premise depends on recognizing the blonde player from Beyond the World and understanding why fans find that character interesting. Playing the fan prequel first can turn intentional references into unexplained details, while playing MiSide first gives you the context needed to see what Voidway retained or rewrote.

A sensible order is:

  1. Play the free MiSide demo if you are unsure about the style.
  2. Play the full MiSide campaign.
  3. Finish or revisit the Beyond the World material.
  4. Download MiSide Zero Alpha from Voidway's official itch.io page.
  5. Treat Zero as a separate fan continuity rather than an official lore chapter.

Players who only want a short character-focused fan experience can still try the Alpha directly, but some references will carry less meaning.

What MiSide Zero Is Not

It is not MiSide 2

AIHASTO has not announced a numbered sequel. “MiSide 2” searches often mix together MiSide Zero, the original game's upcoming content, and fan speculation.

It is not official Peaceful Mode

Peaceful Mode is an in-development mode for AIHASTO's original MiSide. MiSide Zero is a standalone fan game made by Voidway. A calmer scene or character interaction in Zero does not make it the official mode.

It is not finished

The project page labels the game an Alpha and “in development.” Its current half-hour scope is a playable development snapshot, not the final promised campaign.

It is not canon evidence

Voidway openly describes major rewrites. That creative freedom is part of the project's appeal, but it also means its answers, relationships, and endings belong to MiSide Zero's continuity unless AIHASTO independently establishes the same facts.

The cleanest summary is: MiSide is the official source material; MiSide Zero is an ambitious fan-made alternate prequel built from it.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

Is MiSide Zero an official prequel?

No. Voidway describes it as a fan-made prequel and reimagining. The team explicitly states that it is not affiliated with MiSide developer AIHASTO or publisher IndieArk.

Is MiSide Zero the same as MiSide 2?

No. MiSide Zero is a separate fan project, not a sequel developed by AIHASTO. No official MiSide 2 has been announced.

Is MiSide Zero the official Peaceful Mode?

No. Peaceful Mode is an upcoming mode for the original MiSide. MiSide Zero is a standalone Voidway fan game with its own rewritten continuity.

Should I play MiSide or MiSide Zero first?

Play the original MiSide first. MiSide Zero is set earlier, but its premise assumes familiarity with the base game's Beyond the World material and the character fans call Zero.

Does MiSide Zero have all of its planned endings and Mita variants?

The current public release is an in-development Alpha with an average session of about half an hour. Do not treat full-game roadmap claims as features already present in Alpha 0.72.
